From time to time --- often based upon a certain time of year --- we release a limited amount of a truely unique brew. These brews typicially are "over-the-top" styles running the gamut from excessive use of hops (Stone Anniversary IPA), to excessive viscosity (Stone Imperial Russian Stout) or to just plain excessive excessiveness (Double Bastard Ale). Due to our tight brewing schedules, we only have the ability to produce very limited amounts of these brews. Sometimes as little as just a few hundred cases. As a result, they sell out immediately. Furthermore, these brews are often only announced to our email newsletter list, so if you want to not miss out we strongly suggest you sign up. Cheers!

A beautiful bold barley wine. Massive malt and near-critical hop notes. The 2000 edition won a Silver Medal winner at the 2000 Great American Beer Festival in the Barley Wine category. To celebrate, we repeated that recipe for the 2001 edition. Now in the fourth year of release we are modifying the recipe again. (Clearly a case of not knowing how to leave well enough alone --- a Stone characteristic if there ever was one!) Look for the 2002 Old Guardian starting March 11th, 2002. Old Guardian can be cellared or enjoyed upon its release.
