('05 Vertical Epic and '06 Vertical Epic also tasted during this session)

Appearance:
Amber, very little head.
Aroma:
Massive fruit; dried, candied, all of it! Oh, and some alcohols…and hops.
Flavor:
Big, complex, sweet malt flavor that lingers, joined by alcohol notes and then strong, clean bitterness crashes the party.
Palate:
Very full-bodied verging on syrupy, and the carbonation is a little low.
Overall:
Sip this beer slowly sitting down on a chair or the ground.

Mitch Steele
Head Brewer
Appearance:
Deep amber with reddish brown tints.
Aroma:
Very malty! Nice caramel and toffee notes. A hint of hops and fruity esters, along with just a light touch of raisin.
Flavor:
Rich, malty, with some light spicy, floral hop notes, and hints of peach. A bit of toast with a nice caramel toffee flavor.
Palate:
Rich, full, sweet. Balanced with a nice alcohol note and balanced hop bitterness on the finish.
Overall:
Fantastic beer: rich, malty, and complex. I want some for my cellar!

Greg Koch
Chairman & CEO
Appearance:
Looks just like a single malt…and that is really, really good.
Aroma:
The nose has amazingly single malt-like properties as well.
Flavor:

Keeping on the theme…this beer does not taste like a single malt scotch, but it has more in common with that spirit than with most other beers.

Palate:
This beer has a hug impact. I find this year’s edition to be the best ever. Simply outstanding.
Overall:
It wants a little more age on it. Another year or so should do the trick.

Appearance:
Gorgeous beer: light golden brown, bright with a tight thin head.
Aroma:
Sweet, malty, and alcohol. Nuts, burnt straw, doughy and fruity.
Flavor:
Alcohol, roasted fruit ala a single malt / port / sherry.
Palate:
Smooth, full-bodied, and tongue coating. Warms on the way down with awesome lingering malt qualities.
Overall:
Great, actually amazing beer and aging extremely well at this point.

Bill Sherwood
Brewery Facilities Manager
Appearance:
Dark honey color, thin, fine foam.
Aroma:
Intense malt aroma – almost “hot” from alcohol or esters.
Flavor:
Seriously chewy resiny hop mouthfeel, even in a small sip. Alcohol burn, molasses sweetness, oily hoppy chewy blast of flavor.
Palate:
Explodes on the tongue – massive flavor but soft texture.
Overall:
A powerhouse of a beer. Simply ass whipping character!
