Steve Wagner

President & Brewmaster

APPEARANCE:
Amber, clear, with a white head.
AROMA:
Fruity and alcoholic with some hop aroma as well, also some melon and citrus notes.
FLAVOR:
Sweet malt flavors with orange hints leads into big, clean hop bitterness and balanced finish with alcohol present.
PALATE:
Low carbonation, huge, coating mouthfeel…best sipped!
OVERALL:
Really balancing out nicely!

Mitch Steele

Head Brewer

APPEARANCE:
Deep copper amber, great foam, and nice clarity!
AROMA:
Malty, slight toasted grain…a little “bourbon-esque.”
FLAVOR:
Fruity, raisins, heavy malt, some alcohol heat – rich & big.
PALATE:
Full, rich, hot, and moderately bitter.
OVERALL:
VERY nice --- smooth, rich, and big!

Greg Koch

Chairman & CEO

APPEARANCE:
Dark orange with little or no head.
AROMA:
Sweet malts…biscuit-like.
FLAVOR:
Damn, I’m going to open one of mine at home. Hoppy. Big malts. Starting to oxidize but in that certain kind of way that adds those sherry-ish notes to a barley wine.
PALATE:
Big mouthfeel.
OVERALL:
Could probably age longer, but the current characteristics match up to “drink now” territory for my palate. On the other hand, bitterness is still on the edgy side (which I like) but maybe it could mellow some more.

Chris Cochran

Marketing & Promotions
APPEARANCE:
Dark amber-orange, also bright and clear, with good CO2 (nice foam).
AROMA:
Sweetness and hops…hops and sweetness…
FLAVOR:
Malt sweetness, hops, alcohol --- comes across as fresh dough or bread.
PALATE:
Full body, envelopes the tongue with viscous hop bitterness and sweet malty goodness!
OVERALL:
1 year old – are you kidding me? Tastes amazing!

Arlan Arnsten

Vice President of Sales

APPEARANCE:
Brilliant amber color. Most glasses in the room had substantial foam, but mine was very low and gone in seconds – dirty glass?
AROMA:
Big malt aroma: Earthy and fresh.
FLAVOR:
Hops and malt. Slightly spicy but more hops and malt… a terrific barley wine!
PALATE:
Big full mouthfeel with lingering bitterness and viscosity – nice!
OVERALL:
Old Guardian has always been one of my favorites, and this is no exception!

Tom Garcia

Brewer
APPEARANCE:
Deep golden color
AROMA:
Bourbon or dark rum
FLAVOR:
Dried pineapples, herbal bitterness, touch of caramel, bourbon, and spiced rum. Not as bitter as expected.
PALATE:
Full body, good CO2 but could be a little more carbonated.
OVERALL:
N/A
