To Be At Session A, Or Session B...
That Is The Question

Are you an early riser, or an afternoon type of person? Since you're all invited to the Stone 9th Anniversary Celebration & Invitational Beer Festival on Saturday, September 10th you need to decide now which session you'll be attending. Here's why: for this year's event, and for the first time ever, we are breaking the event into two different sessions...and tickets are going fast.

Our annual event will once again be benefiting some very Worthy, local charities: the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos, Palomar Family YMCA, the Surfrider Foundation, and Fight ALD! There will be over 25 guest breweries, tons of great food, homebrewed sodas, and lots more.

This year, THE EVENT IS 21 AND OVER ONLY! Sorry, but due to restrictions beyond our control, no children will be allowed...and there cannot be any exceptions.

Tickets are on sale now via the Stone Brewing Online Giftshop and at the brewery during normal giftshop/tasting hours. In order to keep crowds at a manageable level for maximum enjoyment of the event, ticket sales will be capped at 3000 for each session. Tickets are expected to sell out.

Mmm, Press.

The old adage is that any press is good press. So if it's all great press that must be even better. Thus is the case with the recent mentions of Stone Brewing, and our amazing beers, in several media outlets. In the past few weeks we've been mentioned in a wide range of magazines: Bon Appetit, Zymurgy, Wine Enthusiast, Stuff, and Food & Beverage Executive. Not to mention a story on CNNMoney.com and USA Today.

And The Winner Is...

Here at Stone, we not only release recipes for the Stone Vertical Epic Ales, we also have a small competition surrounding those recipes: the Stone Vertical Epic Challenge. We ask homebrewers across America to follow the online recipe(s) and create the closest possible "clone" to one of the Stone Vertical Epic Ales.

This year we received entries from as far away as Idaho and North Carolina with the lucky (and talented) winner hailing from Arizona. The winning recipe came from Chris Floess of Tucson and it was modeled after the Stone 04.04.04 Vertical Epic Ale. A newcomer to entering beer competitions, Chris was thrilled with the win exclaiming "that's great to hear!"

So if you happen to be a homebrewer and avid beer enthusiast, be sure to check out this link and brew up some batches for next year's competition!

A Stone In The Wall Builds A Community

We told you about the Stone Wall project and you responded with open hearts, strong backs...and some open wallets. You've seen the vBlogs, read the press releases, and soon you'll be able to enjoy it up-close-and-personal. The Stone Wall is a thing of beauty. Amazing to the eye, created by an amazing group of volunteers and supporters, and the money raised is going to make an amazing impact on the lives of many people.

The project at this point has wrapped up and the money tallied, which leaves one last thing --- BIG checks...Price is Right-style checks! If you'd like to find out more information on this unique charity event and to see photos of the charities getting their checks, check out this link.

Rome Wasn't Built In A Day Either

The new brewery is coming along nicely, pretty much right on schedule, and happens to match our beers nicely...it's BIG! There are walls, ceilings, offices, and loading docks starting to take shape. A massive coldbox is already assembled (larger than the entire original Stone Brewing facility before our first expansions). Windows are going in, the restaurant side is progressing, and the new brewhouse is being installed!

On the other hand, there is still a lot of work to be done and if you'd like to keep a close eye on what we're doing, check out this.

We Fought The Law And We Won!

Some people think that their vote doesn't count, or that they can't change the government. If we had that "majority rules" attitude here at Stone we wouldn't be, well...Stone. For the past several years we've been told by the Feds (who oversee beer labels) that we couldn't use the word "Russian" on our Stone Imperial Russian Stout bottles.

Did we sit idly by? No. We assembled literature on the history of the style, wrote letters, and filed petitions. This banter went on for almost four years, until just a few weeks ago we received a letter telling us they have reviewed our latest petition. And you know what? We won and for the first time in over 70 years they amended the specific regulation (27CFR7.24g) governing malt beverage labels!

Just goes to show you that one voice --- if persistent --- can make a difference. From here on out we at Stone, or any other brewery in America, can properly label Imperial Russian Stouts / Russian Imperial Stouts...just like they should be!

We would like to thank the TTB for their consideration of this matter, and agreeing that the use of the word "Russian" in this context does not serve to confuse consumers, but rather serves to accurately inform them.

Another Outstanding Year,
Another Outstanding Beer!
... And A Chance To Win For
One Very Understanding Person!

The release of the Stone 9th Anniversary Ale is coming up August 29th. A tradition we've started over the past three years with the Stone Anniversary Ale is having the Stone Crew submit words for the back of the bottle. Greg has the challenge of weaving these words into something meaningful. Last year the nearly sadistic Stone Crew submitted such fun words as: floccinaucinihilipilification, corpus callosum, contumacioius and discombobulation. This year the cruelty continued and Greg (with our own Bryon Wischstadt) somehow managed to wrangle and force them into sentences and paragraphs. So we thought we'd turn a challenge to you guys of figuring out what in the world Greg was trying to say...

Stone presents: "The Stone 9th Anniversary Ale Label Challenge... What's It All Mean?!?" You read the label online and you tell us in lay terms what you think Greg was trying to say. Email your guesses to logophobicnightmares@stonebrewing.com by midnight Sunday, August 28th. We'll take the best translation and post it on the website and the winner will receive invitations for four to a pre-opening event at the Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens (or if you are an out-of-towner, dinner for four any time you're in San Diego in the next few years)!

Cheers!
-Chris & The Stone Brew Crew
