Stone Brewing Makes the INC. 500!

Our lucky number? 279 !!! This month, INC magazine honored the 500 fastest growing companies in the United States. The criteria were strict, the math was tricky, especially after a few bottles. But after counting all the kegs, caps and empties it was official...Stone Brewing company became the only brewery on this year's INC 500 list, shining at #279. Check out INC magazine's October issue for the full results and join us in toasting (one at a time, of course) the other 499 companies that embody the American entrepreneurial spirit. (Just try saying "American entrepreneurial spirit" after 500 toasts!) And, of course, a HUGE thank you to our fans. We couldn't have done it without you!

A Slew of New Dates For The
Stone Special Growler Fill Schedule!

Sometimes...the old ways were best...

"Rushing the Growler was named after a custom that prevailed in pre-bottle days. As there was no way to get beer from the tavern to the working man (and woman!) other than in a small pail, young boys would line up outside factories and other businesses just before the lunch hour. At the first scream of the noon whistle, a worker would hand the boy a pail, and the boy would scramble to the closest tavern, get the growler filled with beer and "rush" back to the factory, where he would hand the beer to his thirsty paying customer."

Excerpt taken from Rushing the Growler:
A History of Brewing in Buffalo
by Stephen R. Powell

We don't know what YOUR company's policies are about drinking beer for lunch, but the Friday and Saturday afternoon growler fill at the Stone brewery is becoming quite a tradition among the locals (Some 'locals' drive over a hundred miles to fill their growlers!). To reward those far and near,we've developed quite a line-up for the "Special Growler Fill Program" here at Stone Brewing. Check out the impressive offerings of specialty and seasonal beers (hint: make your travel arrangements early to avoid the rush!)

Ohio, Ohio and More Ohio

Ahhh, it's certainly good to have friends in the brewing industry. And it's even better to have brewer friends that make great beer. But the perfect situation is definitely when you have friends that are brewers who make great beer AND promote your beer as well! Everyone knows we have such friends like that in San Diego (Pizza Port & Oggi's), Albuquerque (Turtle Mountain Brewing), Phoenix (Papago Brewing), but did you know about our friends at Buckeye Brewing? Well, you should, dammit. And here's the perfect excuse to make that drive (rent a hotel room for the night --- don't drive home with out a designated driver!)...

From the Buckeye Brewing Co.'s own newsletter....
Arrogant Bastard Promotion
Saturday, October 19th

Buckeye's best selling guest draft will be the focus of our celebration of the passage of House Bill 371. Stone's big, malty, amber ale comes from the San Diego area. We will be selling pints of Arrogant Bastard Ale for a special price and you get to keep the glass with the Arrogant Bastard logo on it. T-shirts will also be available for sale. Because the "higher alcohol" bill will be law, we may be able to acquire another draft beer not previously available to our area. Buckeye will also have complimentary sheet pizza throughout the event. Also, we will run some additional specials on Buckeye beer. The Winking Lizard Homebrew Contest judging will take place earlier that day; we will announce the winners at our brewery that evening. Bill Metzger, publisher of the Great Lakes Brewing News should be at the event as well as other local brewers, homebrewers and representatives from Cavalier Distributing (distributors of Stone Brewing's beers).

Note: Buckeye Brewing is located at 25200 Miles Road
Bedford Heights, Ohio
phone: (216) 292-2739

Stone and the Arrogance have been
sighted in Boston, Massachusetts!

That's right, now our friends in Boston can work on forgetting about that big MASSive HOLE in the middle of the city with a pint or two of Arrogant Bastard Ale. Or pint(s) of Stone IPA, Stone Smoked Porter, or Stone Ruination IPA. Or our famous 22oz bottles. Whatever your choice of Stone brew, we're stoked to add the grand old city of Beantown Boston! Avoid any urge to try to fill the sinkhole with your empties!

Of course, the city isn't the only place to get Arrogant. Our distributor tells us they've got the state of MA covered! Need to find them to find the Bastard? As always, just refer to our handy-dandy "Distributors" page on the Stone website!

A Media Riddle???

What is Arrogant, has two legs, glasses, twenty-two ounces and an incredible view? The Cover of San Diego Metropolitan Magazine! Stone Brewing & Greg Koch are featured in the October issue, where Greg squanders his fifteen minutes of fame talking about, among other things....beer. Not to be accused of being a one topic guy, he also covers other hard-hitting topics...namely baseball and cheese. Play to his ego! Next time you see him, ask for an autographed (full) bottle of Arrogant Bastard Ale. You can even keep the empty bottle after you drink it (I encourage recycling...) See the online article at

Stone Extreme Lemony-Lime Revisited

You may remember that we here at Stone expressed our disdain for those fizzy-sugary-trendy-sweet malternatives with our April Fool's Extreme Lemony-Lime press release. Most of you got the joke. Now, the joke seems to be on the purveyors of that pap. The trend may be dying under the lame weight of it's own marketing... Read this article on "malternatives" from the Philadelphia Daily News. We loved the article. So will you.
