It’s young (born in 1996), it makes seriously outrageous, unusual beers and has recently opened a state-of-the-art $14m brewery that frankly looks like it’s been designed by Salvador Dali and Fred Flintstone – after they’ve had a heavy session on Stone’s infamously strong ales."

"There may be a budding food crisis afoot in the land, but at least there's still beer—and a growing amount of small-batch "craft" beer, according to the U.S. Brewer's Association, the trade association for America's favorite foamy beverage. The food crunch has hit the beer business; rising costs have made quality ingredients harder to come by. And last spring Oregon Reps. Peter DeFazio and Greg Walden founded the first ever House Small Brewers Caucus, a bipartisan group dedicated to keeping watch over the interests of the microbrewery industry on Capitol Hill."

"The beer (Stone Cali-Belgique IPA) is more carbonated than the normal IPA, but it is more in line with the Belgian style. The first flavor that hits your mouth is a bitter pine hop flavor followed by that distinct hearty Belgium yeast flavor. The beer finishes with that same hop flavor that you started with. This is an amazing example of this new emerging style coming from southern California."

The Results Are In: More Americans Are Drinking Better Beer— More Americans Are Drinking Stone!
WHO: Brewers Association WHAT: Top 50 Craft Breweries in America—Stone Brewing Co. Rises to #20! WHY: Craft Brewing Industry Continues Strong Growth in 2007 Let’s clarify the ranking in the above heading. Stone Brewing Co., according to the Brewers Association (BA), which tabulates annual growth and production data in the American brewing industry, has ranked 20th among craft brewers in the U.S. in terms of sales by volume. The BA ranking notwithstanding (and false modesty certainly never being among our core values) we at Stone still prefer to think of ourselves as #1—in terms of the quality and character of our beer, of course. Still, #20 in sales is hardly small beer, given that Stone’s humble beginnings barely over a decade ago make us the youngest brewer among the top 25 on the list.
